TrailKids! Programs TrailKids! is a children's program being developed by Bear Creek Hiking Club. Many projects are planned for Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. Programs being planned for TrailKids! are Treasure Hunts on Bear Creek, Collecting Walking Stick Mileage Beads, Nature Scavenger Hikes, Star Gazing, Canoe and Kayak Paddle Events. Even the possibility of family camping and fishing trips. Foothills Outdoors, a non-profit outdoor recreation organization in Robbins, N.C. and Bear Creek Hiking Club are working side-by-side in developing TrailKids! Programs. Volunteers are needed to help coordinate these programs. Please write Bear Creek Hiking Club, P.O. Box 244, Robbins, N.C. 27325, for more details. Also, be sure and check the calendar on the Hikes and Hiking Schedule page of this website to see TrailKids! Program details and when they are scheduled.

Collect Walking Stick Mileage Beads Colorful Mileage Beads are awarded to participants for achieving distances hiked. For every 25 miles, 10 miles for kids 15 and under, the hiker earns one bead. Pretty soon, the beads add up and will be threaded onto the leather strap handle of your walking stick. The more trails walked, the more beads are earned. Lots of fun to collect and you can see your own mileage progress right on your walking stick as you hike more trails. Families have fun with this program earning and collecting their colored beads at the same time, when they hike together. Mileage will be calculated by the Trail Coordinators during organized hikes. Achievement level recognition and mileage beads earned will be announced at each club meeting.
